Container Corner

Thrillers, Fillers, and Spillers

Mill Hollow Nursery specializes in container design and offers plants well-suited for containers.  Our plants are arranged in the greenhouse not only by color but also by light requirements (shade lovers on one side & sun lovers on the other).  This makes it easy for you to design your own planters and gardens or have us assist you.  Tell us what your needs are and your budget and we’ll help you select the perfect plants for your location and pocket book.  Depending on your personal style we may suggest bold colors and tropical foliage or soft pastels and delicate lacy foliage or anything in-between.

New 2009 introductions
include sun-loving Tuberous Begonias with frilly flowers, giant-leaved Elephant Ears and Castor Bean plants, and drought tolerant  selections like Agastache ‘Tutti Frutti’ and Euphorbia ‘Silver Fog’.  There are wild, new colors of Coleus’s and exotic Geraniums with vivid and colorful leaves.  There is even a continuous blooming Miniature Butterfly Bush...perfect for a container!  Consider new Ornamental Grasses like ‘Twisted Arrows’ and ‘Frosted Explosion’.  Select a short iron trellis (from the Garden Shop) for your planter and grow unique heirloom English Sweet Peas that flower the entire summer (I promise) and fill the air with sweet fragrance.  Create containers “good enough to eat” with ‘Purple Flash’ Ornamental Pepper, and ‘Bright Lights’ Swiss Chard.  Miniature trough gardens can be filled with an array of hardy Succulents in all shapes, sizes and colors.  “Pot your own” in our Potting Shed and leave the mess with us!
